The Midsomer Arts Festival is a celebration of the Arts in and around Midsomer Norton. The focus is on local engagement with the arts, and encouraging involvement in, and appreciation of, creativity and artistic expression in as wide a range of forms as possible.
Throughout the week
Visual Arts As in the previous five years of the Midsomer Norton Arts Trail, art work produced by students from Norton Hill and Somervale Schools will be displayed in the windows of shops and businesses on and around the high street of Midsomer Norton. There will also be art work on display in other venues. At present these are- Midsomer Norton Town Hall Tesco and Sainbury's Cafes and restaurants Coal Shovels
We are using the image of a coal shovel as a unifying symbol for the Arts Festival. It is intended to refer to the mining heritage of the area, which is still ever present in the environment, architecture and other visible legacies. In the same way that the cities of Bath and Wells have decorated pigs and swans, we are asking people and groups to adorn the shape of a larger than life coal shovel, which will be displayed around the area. Site Specific Art Work
There will be textile and sculptural work displayed around the area, which is designed to be discovered unexpectedly, though there will be a trail map to help end them. The riverside area will be adorned with large scale art work created by secondary school pupils such as bunting, flags and portraits. Exhibitions by Artists
Local artists, both professional and non-professional will be displaying their work along the riverside area on Saturday 27th June, and in specific venues in the town centre during the week. Midsomer Norton Anthem
Kilter Arts Group from Bath have been working in the community to create a Midsomer Norton Anthem, which can be performed in part or its entirety at community events. They have encouraged ideas for lyrics from schools, community groups, business and individuals. We expect this to be completed by the festival and to have its premiere on Wednesday 24th June. |
